Recently some pupils from Year 5 and 6 were chosen to represent Chester-le-Street in the County Finals. They played extremely well and showed great team spirit. We are proud to report that a Year 6 pupil came 2nd overall in the gymnastics competition which was an excellent achievement.
In Spring term we had our whole school ‘Science Week’ which was an initiative led by Mrs Parks, Science Co-ordinator. During the week pupils were able to work scientifically to complete a range of activities and investigations. Amongst some of the favourite investigations were ‘which nappy is the most absorbent?’ and ‘which biscuit is best for dunking?’ The feedback from pupils was very positive. We now have Science Ambassadors who will help to come up with great ideas to promote Science in our school. These pupils were chosen because of their fantastic skills and passion for the subject.
We had a fantastic response to the Easter Egg competition. Mrs Bell, our Chair of Governors, had difficult decisions to make while picking the winners but after some deliberation she chose 1st, 2nd and 3rd from each year group. We had a special assembly where the prizes were handed out to the winners.
Spring term ended extremely well as Year 2 performed their assembly on the theme of ‘Castles’. Parents, carers, staff and pupils were entertained by a joust, feast and even imagined that we were in Bournmoor Castle and it was hundreds of years ago! It was great fun to watch and impressive how much the children had learned in this topic.
