Durham Local Authority sets the admission policy for the school. Preference Forms for school can be completed on line at www.durham.gov.uk, requested from Admissions and Transport Entitlement Team, Children and Young People’s Services, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UJ or from school itself.
The school has an admission limit of 25 children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and 20 children in year groups 3, 4, 5 and 6. If more children want a place than there are places available, the LA will offer places according to the following criteria, strictly in order of priority:
i. Children in Public Care
ii. Medical Reasons -Pupils with very exceptional medical factors directly related to school placement.
iii. Sibling Links – Pupils who have a brother or sister already attending the preferred school and who is expected to be on roll at the school at the time of admission.
iv. Distance – Pupils who live nearest the preferred school measured by the shortest walking route. This will be based on the parents’ address.
Measuring of Routes/Distance
The Local Authority uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) to measure the shortest walking route.
The shortest walking routes are measured from the nearest entrance to a house (e.g.
front gate) or flats (e.g. front door of the main building) to the nearest school entrance.
If parents are dissatisfied with a decision not to admit their child to the school they have the right of appeal to an independent Appeals Committee established in accordance with the provision of the Education Act 1980. They should contact:
