Each term we look at attendance as part of ongoing monitoring. This term there are a number of pupils on track to achieve 100% by the end of term (Friday 22nd December). On the last day of term all pupils with 100% will receive their wrist band in recognition of this great achievement. Attendance at school is vital to allow children to achieve their full potential and we continue to monitor the attendance of pupils that fall below government guidelines.
Maths Guidance
Many thanks to the parents who attended our recent Maths Evening where Mrs Parks and staff talked about how we teach maths in school. Just a reminder that our school website has helpful information to support learning at home which can be found on www.bournmoor.durham.sch.uk / parents / our curriculum and then click on the maths link.
Advice for Parents on Cyberbullying
To support parents with concerns or questions they have about on-line safety (including cyberbullying) the Department for Education has produced a guidance document that can support families to stay safe on-line. This is particularly important at this time of year when children may have asked for devices for Christmas which can connect to the internet. The advice can be downloaded through an internet search for advice for parents and carers on cyberbullying gov uk or you can ask school for a paper copy.
Electric Car Competition
We are proud to announce that Mr Seaton’s class have AGAIN won the competition judged by a panel of professionals at Newcastle University Advanced Propulsion Centre. Their submission was fantastic and introduces children to basic mechanics as the electric car we have contains instructions and needs to be constructed and tested. Well done to our fantastic car designers.
Christmas Jumper Day – 15th December
On Friday 15th December children can join in with SAVE THE CHILDREN Christmas Jumper Day to try and raise funds for those in need. We thought it would be good if children could wear their festive jumpers that day if they have one (please note non-uniform is allowed instead). Donations towards SAVE THE CHILDREN would be very welcome on that day and proceeds will be sent to help those who need it most.
Christmas Fair Thursday 7th December 3-5pm
Just a reminder that our Christmas Fair is on Thursday 7th December starting at 3pm. We are very grateful for all the donations we have received for this so far, including those that we will take to the Food Bank in Chester-le Street. Children can wear non-uniform on Thursday and we would politely ask for a donation in return for our raffle/tombola/cake stall, etc. We have a range of stalls at the event as well as refreshments. Children can also come along with parents and meet Santa Claus. We look forward to seeing you.
Pantomime Performance
On Thursday 21st December children can enjoy a pantomime in school. We hope every child will join in with the singing and fun while they watch the performance by Chaplins Pantomime Company. On the afternoon the infants will have a disco while juniors have fun activities in their classroom. After school from 3.15pm it is the junior disco until 5pm. You only need to contact school if your junior child is not able to attend the disco. This will be a non-uniform day in school.
Christingle Service 20th December
Just a reminder that families are welcome to join us at the Christingle Service starting at 2pm on Wednesday 20th December. We look forward to seeing you there if you are able to come along. Please meet us at St Barnabas as staff will bring the children to the service.
Supporting Local Projects
We aim to support our local community and one of the ways we do this is by gathering donations for the Food Bank. If you have any spare dried goods (i.e. pasta or rice) or any tins of food then we would be pleased to accept them and pass them onto this local service. Food can be brought in at any time leading up to Christmas.
