January – Determination

4th December 2017 By Admin Linda

The value of the month for January is Determination.

What is determination?

Determination is to keep on trying and never giving up. It is setting goals and working towards them whilst realising it is fine to make mistakes.

As a school we want our pupils to understand that mistakes are often part of the journey to success and that we have to work hard to succeed.

Are you determined?

Determined people…

  • Don’t give up on their goals no matter how tough things get.
  • Don’t worry about making mistakes and understand that mistakes are part of the journey to success.
  • Are not afraid to work hard to succeed.
  • Don’t work hard to impress others, but to impress themselves instead!

Can you try to be more determined?

  • Don’t worry about what you haven’t achieved, instead look at what you have achieved so far.
  • Try to be patient and kind to yourself.
  • Your words have power. Don’t waste time complaining, be positive.
  • E.g. Don’t say “I can’t do it!”
  • Instead try, “I can’t do it YET, but I will!”

Determination Ideas for Home

  • Talk about determination. What are you determined to do this year?
  • What can you do to help yourself when things get tough?
  • Who do you know who has shown determination? What have they achieved?
  • Make a collection of people or stories who have shown great determination. They will become your inspiration!
  • Try a puzzle and don’t give up!
  • Set yourself a challenge and don’t moan. Stick to your commitment.

December – Kindness

4th December 2017 By Admin Linda

The value of the month for December is Kindness.

What is kindness?

Kindness is being caring, considerate and helpful towards others.

As a school we want to promote kindness and try to make it a greater part of all of our day to day lives.  We will discuss the meaning of kindness, how we can show kindness and how our acts of kindness makes others feel.

There are so many acts of kindness!  Here are some ideas:

  • Say something nice
  • Say thank you
  • Hold the door open for someone
  • Smile or say hello
  • Talk to someone different
  • Ask someone to play
  • Offer to help
  • Pay someone a compliment
  • Tell someone when they have done something well
  • Cheer someone up when they are sad

How many more random acts of kindness can you think of?

At home, please talk about kindness.  Challenge your child to come up with ways to be kind to their friends, family, teachers, members of the community and to themselves.

Anti-bullying Week

9th November 2015 By Admin Linda

logo abThis week it is Anti-bullying Week and as part of our PSHE work we will be supporting this fabulous campaign. This year the theme is ‘Make a noise about bullying’.  The key aim is to encourage children and young people to make a noise about bullying, whether it’s happening to them or to someone else, face-to-face or online.

During the week children will learn about bullying, how to recognise it and report it.  Children will be given opportunities to express their views about bullying.

Non-uniform Day

Make a noise with your clothes!

School Council would like to invite everyone to make a noise with ‘loud’ clothing on Friday 20th November 2015.  Try wearing bright colours, mismatched colours or even bold patterns to make a stand together!

Competition Time – Anti-bullying Slogans

See the School Council page for information about this exciting competition.

What is bullying?

Bullying is…

  • Hurting another person, or group, on purpose, more than once.
  • Bullying can involve using violence, hurtful words or ganging up to make another person feel helpless.
  • It can happen face-to-face or through the Internet.

Year 5/6 Computing Training

19th January 2015 By Admin Linda

computer imageOn Thursday 8th January pupils in Year 5 and 6 worked with Mr Hodgkinson, an IT specialist, to develop their computing skills further.

He showed them how to use KODU which lets pupils create games on the PC via a simple visual programming language. KODU can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, story telling or many other areas of the curriculum.

The pupils really enjoyed the chance to develop their programming skills.
